Catherine Ruth Joslyn, known affectionately as Cathie, passed away on July 21, 2024, in Gulfport, Florida, at the age of 74. Born on May 18, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, Cathie was the eldest daughter of Richard Owen Joslyn and Mary Ellen See Joslyn of Kansas City, Missouri. Cathie graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School, studied Art and Art History, earning a BA at Colby College and an MFA in Textiles at Indiana University.
A Professor Emerita at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, who began her teaching career at the Kansas City Art Institute, Joslyn exhibited internationally and produced commissioned work; her works also hang in numerous public and private collections. She has published in Oxford’s Art Online. She won a Fulbright Teaching and Research Grant to Peru in 2001-2, and much of her imagery has been informed by studies of Andean and other cultures.
Cathie was an adventurous spirit and a life-long learner, who enjoyed travel, art, music, yoga, and bicycling.
She is survived by her sisters Susan Joslyn and Lucinda Sexton, her brother Robert Joslyn (Nichole) and children, her nephew Miles (Alma) and children, her niece Penelope and daughter, and her niece Rachel (Nate) and children. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends in Gulfport, St. Petersburg, Cleveland, and across the world.
