November, 2024.
There is a new display on the ground floor of Doucette hall on the Edinboro Campus, with a gallery of student films that have won awards on one side and a gallery of student photography work on the other.
The case contains historical film and photo equipment, some of which were used by Edinboro students. Others have been donated by alumni and students. The case also includes short informational cards about each piece of equipment. It will be on display for the foreseeable future, there are currently no plans to take it down.
Some of my favorite items include:
The Polaroid Land Camera Model 95, released in 1948, was the first successful implementation of a self-developing “instant” film camera and sold out within minutes at its first department store sale in Boston.
The Bell and Howell Filmo Master 570 Projector from the 1920s and 30s which currently has the film Thoughts threaded into it.
Thoughts is a film created by 1971 Edinboro graduate Tony Buba who is credited as the film programs first student and has gone on to direct Sundance selection Lighting over Braddock as well work in the sound department for Dawn of the Dead.
This display is still in progress, and we are currently working with the gallery curator to get it finished up and polished.
